In order to get those juicy bell peppers, you need to have fruits, which means that your pepper plant has to give flowers first. But what if this doesn't happen? Pepper plant not blooming is one of the most common issues you can encounter when growing bell peppers.

Why is My Pepper Plant Not Blooming?

If you wish to enjoy bell peppers, you need to have fruits on your Pepper plant first. But what happens if the Pepper plant won't give flowers? Pepper plant not blooming is a relatively common issue, and it can cause numerous problems for gardeners.

In general, it takes about a week for a Pepper plant to sprout. From there, it takes from 60 to 90 days for your Pepper plant to reach full maturity. By this time, you should see fruits appearing. But what if that doesn't happen? Pepper plant not blooming is a common issue that can ruin your garden, because if there are no blooms, there will be no vegetables, either.

Here are some common reasons for Pepper plant not blooming and what you can do about it:

Cold Environment

Keep in mind that Pepper plants are very sensitive to the environment. They need temperatures of 70 to 85 degrees F during the day and about 60 to 70 degrees F during the night to thrive. In other words, if the weather is too cold, it will prevent Peppers from growing properly. It can often lead to Pepper plant not blooming.

You need to make sure that you are planting Pepper seeds in the soil that is warm enough for these plants. Keep in mind that temperatures that are too hot will not do your plants good, either.

In order to prevent these issues, make sure to always plant your Peppers in a warm enough spot. If you know the weather will be colder, cover your plants with a blanket to protect them.

Not Enough Sunlight

Another thing that your Pepper plant requires is enough sunlight. It will not produce flowers if there is not enough sun. Pepper plants need a lot of sunlight: at least 6 hours of exposure per day. This is why it's so important to plant your Peppers in a spot that gets enough sunlight.

Bad Nutrients

A common issue with Pepper plant not blooming is lack of proper nutrients and the abundance of those that will prevent flowers from forming. If you notice that the blooms appear on your Pepper plant initially, but the fruit is not forming, inspect your plant. You may notice a brown or black cloth at the end of the plant.

This is blossom end rot, and it occurs when the plant is lacking in calcium or if it lacks some other essential nutrient. Make sure to add calcium to your Peppers in order to make them give flowers and fruit.

In addition to calcium, offer enough phosphorus and potassium. These are needed for your Pepper plant to thrive and to be able to form flowers and, through this, fruits.

Also, make sure never to offer your Pepper plants too much nitrogen. Too much nitrogen will encourage the growth of leaves but at the expense of flowers and fruits.

Weeds

Another common reason for your Pepper plant not blooming might be the weeds. These are very common in many gardens. Some vegetable plants can tolerate them, but not Peppers. It is an imperative to keep your Peppers free of any weeds or else they might not be able to grow as strong and healthy as they need to be to give flowers and fruits. Make sure to go through your garden and remove any weeds you find as soon as they form.

Grow Peppers Properly

In order to make your Pepper plant give fruit, you need to grow them properly. It is best to plant seedlings right after spring. Make sure to plant them about 8 to 24 inches apart. Make sure to plant them in an area that receives enough sunlight and that is warm enough for your plants to thrive.

Ensure that the soil is well-draining and that it contains all the nutrients your Pepper plants need to grow healthy and strong. Water them as soon as you plant them, and add a bit of a fertilizer. Make sure never to use fertilizer with too much nitrogen, because it can cause your Pepper plants not blooming.

Once you see Peppers starting to bloom, it is a sign that you are doing well. The fruits will appear soon after. This is when you need to support your plants so the fruit will not weight your plants down.
