Peppers add flavor to food and there are many different meals you can prepare with them. It's therefore not surprising that many people choose to grow these vegetables in their garden.

Peppers can even be grown in containers, so they are ideal for those who have limited space. There are many different sizes of peppers to choose from, so they offer a lot of variety and allow you to pick the best ones for your needs. You may also choose peppers based on the flavor, from mild to very spicy.

One of the main problems with peppers is not the difficulty to care for them properly but pests. Aphids love peppers and are common pests with this vegetable. Therefore, to grow your peppers successfully, you will need to learn how to get rid of aphids.

Homemade Aphid Killer Sprays

While there are many commercial products available, it's always best to use natural insecticides. You can easily make several effective bug sprays to get rid of aphids, all using only household items. These recipes are safe and don't require much time or money to make.

Before you make or use any aphid sprays, it's important to emphasize that it's always best to keep pests under control. Observe your plants regularly and react as soon as you notice the problem. Don't let aphids spread - it will make it more difficult to get rid of them.

The first thing you need to know about aphids is that they are hidden all over your plants, but they prefer undersides of the leaves. Therefore, the first course of action would be to simply give your plants a good washing. Do some quick pressure water spray on the leaves and the underside of leaves. This won't kill aphids but it will remove them temporarily from your plant, which gives you more time to get rid of them properly.

To get rid of aphids, there are several effective home recipes you can use, such as a simple and comples aphid killer sprays or extra spicy killer spray. You may also use US Department of Agriculture Mix specially made to control aphids.

Recipes

Here are recipes for these quick and effective aphid killer sprays:

  • Simple Killer Spray: You will need 1 tsp of dish-washing soap and water. Take a 32 oz spray bottle and fill it with mixture of water and soap. Make sure to shake the bottle before use. To get rid of aphids, spray liberally on tops and bottom of leaves.
  • Complex Killer Spray: You will need 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of oil soap, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, 1.5 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 gallon of water. Mix the ingredients with water and pour the mixture into the spray bottle. Spray on your plants, paying extra attention to leaves and their undersides.
  • Extra Spicy Killer Spray: You will need 3 hot peppers and 1 quart of water. Chop the peppers finely and mix them with water. Leave overnight. Strain the mixture and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray on your plants. Make sure not to get any of the mixture in your eyes!
  • US Department of Agriculture Mix: You will need 2 tsp of dishwashing soap, 1 cup of vegetable oil and water. Take a 32 oz spray bottle and fill it with the mixture of soap, oil and water. Make sure to shake the bottle before use. Apply on your plants every 9-10 days to keep aphids under control.
